Oregon man rescues injured bobcat

Associated Press CORVALLIS, Ore. – An Oregon man who found an injured bobcat lying in the middle of a highway rescued the animal despite the risk it could attack him.

Nick Wallace calmed the cat by talking to him and trying to make him understand that he was not in danger.

Nick Wallace of Corvallis found the unconscious bobcat in the middle of Highway 99W while driving home from work last week.

The cat was bleeding from the mouth and nose, so he picked it up and put it in his car. He tried to find a nearby wildlife rehab center but ended up going to a Corvallis veterinary clinic.

As he approached the clinic the bobcat woke up, and Wallace had to calm him by talking to him and trying to make the big cat understand he was not a threat.

It took several veterinary workers to remove the bobcat, who got defensive after Wallace parked. But they treated his injuries and fixed a couple of broken teeth, and now the 2-year-old male is recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. There are plans to release him to the wild again soon.
